'This Is Our Punk Rock...': A Mix by Crow Versus Crow for Basic FM and their TUSK Festival 2013 Broadcast.
This is a 120 minute mix of tracks that I feel represents a small and specific cross-section of the many manifestations of 'Punk Rock' over the last 43 years. All the tracks here give a nod to the 'This is a chord, this is another, this is a third. Now form a band'-mentality in some way or other. Some more than others.
The question of the contemporary significance of Punk Rock, as an idea or an ethos, an approach to functioning within a community and society, is one I am constantly working through. For me, Punk/Punk Rock escapes linguistic and aesthetic definition, which is an intrinsic part of it's existence. It should be fluid, in flux. Maybe that's bloated and maybe I'm romanticising something - maybe it all means shit?! But the records I own and the records I love, the people I have met and the experiences I have shared lead me to believe otherwise.
A massive 'Thank You' to Joe for the opportunity to put these tracks together, and for playing them over the airwaves.
